ACS will expand the port of Aberdeen for a value of 400 million

The bid by Dragados, a subsidiary of the ACS Group, has been awarded the contract for the expansion of the port of Aberdeen (Scotland), selected ahead of other offers from consortia formed by Boskalis - Volker Vessels; Van Oord - Morrison Construction - Aarsleff; Dredging International - Züblin; Besix - Kier - Rohde Nielsen..

The new facilities will be located in a bay south of the existing port of Aberdeen. The current port structures mainly serve the oil industry of the United Kingdom which has its epicentre in the city of Aberdeen.

The contract involves the design and construction of a new port to complement and increase the capacity of the existing port and that enables the operation larger ships in order to meet the expected future increase in demand.

Construction works at the new port will begin in 2017 and are scheduled to end before the end 2020. They mainly consist in dredging the bay and access channels, the construction of two breakwaters to the north and south of the bay and the construction of 1400m of new docks and associated infrastructure.

The tender pre-qualification process lasted around a year and was conducted under the model of competitive dialogue with the customer in order to allow each bidder to offer an innovative technical solution that reduced the costs and risks and improved the benefits of the project. A final 3-month periods of negotiations will now begin before the signature of the contract scheduled for October 2016.
