ACS awarded tunnel project in Canada

11.10.2016
Dragados Canada will be responsible for the construction of 6.4 kilometres of CSST (Combined Sewage Storage Tunnel) tunnel in Ottawa

The ACS Group, in the framework of its strategy of growth and expansion in North America and Canada, has been selected by the city of Ottawa for the construction of a tunnel for the storage of storm waters worth 150 million Canadian dollars (approximately 101.5 million euros). The works started in September of this year, with completion expected in September 2019.

Dragados Canada, a subsidiary of ACS designated the winning bidder in the project, will build a tunnel of 6.4 km in length and 3 m in diameter, executed with a tunnel boring machine. The works will allow the temporary storage of surplus flows from existing collectors in Ottowa for further treatment in the city's purifying plants, which will improve the quality of the river water.

These new works will prevent contaminated waters from pouring in into the Ottawa River, thus improving water quality, one of the City’s main concerns.

The work also includes the construction of the corresponding connection pits to the existing collectors.

This is the second contract awarded to Dragados Canada in the city of Ottawa after the contract in 2012 for the city’s first light rail line for 1.8 billion dollars.
